Message:	Dear Friend, This election day, I am voting NO on Proposal 3 to keep doves protected, and I hope you will join me in saying NO to shooting doves in our state. The mourning dove is Michigan's official bird of peace, yet Proposal 3 would allow the target shooting of these gentle backyard songbirds. There is NO good reason to shoot mourning doves: Doves are NOT overpopulated. Doves are shot for target practice, NOT for food. Doves do NOT damage property or crops. There are 40 other game bird species in Michigan and there is NO reason to add doves. It has been Michigan's tradition to protect mourning doves since 1905, and there is NO reason to change that now. The shooting of doves is opposed by the Michigan Humane Society, Michigan Audubon Society, Michigan State Grange, Detroit Free Press, and nearly every other major newspaper in the state. On November 7, you can help maintain the 100-year-old protections for mourning doves by voting NO on Proposal 3! Please vote NO on Proposal 3 and say NO to shooting doves.
