Final Numbers Show “No on 3” Campaign Was Supported by Nearly 7,000 Michigan Citizens
Lansing, Mich. (December 7, 2006) – The Committee to Keep Doves Protected, the official ballot committee of the Vote “No” on Proposal 3 campaign, announced that its post-election campaign finance report filed today shows it raised a total of $2,275,712.49 for its campaign. The Committee received 7,170 contributions over the course of the campaign, 6,906, or 96%, of which were from individual Michigan citizens.

Election Night “Coo”: Doves Top Vote-Getter in All Contested Statewide Races
Lansing, Mich. (November 8, 2006) – More Michigan citizens voted No on Proposal 3, a proposal to authorize a statewide dove shooting season, than voted for any candidate for statewide elective office, or voted for or against any other contested ballot proposal.

The Committee to Keep Doves Protected Begins Statewide TV Campaign
Lansing, Mich. (October 9, 2006) – The Committee to Keep Doves Protected launched its statewide television campaign commercials today to encourage Michigan residents to vote ‘NO’ on Proposal 3.  The ad gives reasons that mourning doves should remain protected, including that doves are not overpopulated, not harmful to people or property, and are shot for target practice, not food.

First Daily Newspaper Endorsement on Proposal 3: Vote NO
Lansing Mich. (October 2, 2006) – The Macomb Daily Friday became the first Michigan newspaper to editorialize on Michigan’s Proposal 3, urging Michigan residents to vote “NO” on shooting mourning doves. Proposal 3 would, if passed, create a new dove shooting season thereby reversing Michigan’s 100 year tradition of protecting mourning doves.

Committee to Keep Doves Protected to Hold Gala
LANSING, Mich. (September 14, 2006) ─ The Committee to Keep Doves Protected will hold a fundraiser and silent auction to raise money and awareness for the campaign to keep doves protected by voting “No” on Proposal 3. The event will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 16 at the Detroit Zoo’s Wildlife Interpretive Gallery.

“No on Proposal 3” Campaign Announces Further Legal Action against Dove Shooting Proponents’ Illegal Fundraising
LANSING, Mich. (September 13, 2006) ─ The Committee to Keep Doves Protected, the official ballot committee for the “No” on Proposal 3 campaign,  today announced it has filed a complaint with Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land against the “Citizens for Wildlife Conservation Committee (CWCC),” the ballot committee attempting to create a new dove shooting season in Michigan.

Ballot Language Set for Dove Shooting Referendum
Lansing, Mich. (September 5, 2006) – Official language has been set for the referendum on dove shooting that Michigan voters will be asked to decide on Election Day.  Michigan’s Board of Canvassers has approved language for the proposal as it will appear on the ballot, assigned the referendum number proposal 3, and confirmed that voters will vote “Yes” to create a new dove season in Michigan or vote “No” to continue Michigan’s 100 year tradition of protecting doves.

Dove Protection Proponents Seek Other Avenues to Enforce Cox Ruling on Illegal Lottery LANSING, Mich. (August 14, 2006) ─ Officials of the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban today said that while they were pleased Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox has shut down an illegal lottery organized by pro-dove shooting groups, the Committee will seek other means for ensuring that none of the money raised illegally can be used on the ballot proposal campaign.

(June 2, 2006) The Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban announced today it has requested that Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox investigate an illegal lottery organized by pro-dove shooting groups to raise money for a ballot proposal campaign to permanently abolish Michigan's 100 year-old ban on shooting mourning doves.

LANSING, Mich. (June 2, 2005) The Board of State Canvassers officially approved and certified the more than 275,000 petition signatures presented by the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban to place the referendum on the November 2006 ballot.

More Than 275,000 Signatures Collected To Allow Vote On Restoring Michigan's Century-Old Dove Shooting Ban
LANSING, Mich. (March 28, 2005) Today, the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban announced it is submitting more than 275,000 signatures of registered Michigan voters to qualify the dove shooting referendum for the November 2006 ballot. Nearly 5,000 Michigan volunteers canvassed the state this winter with petitions in response to a bill narrowly passed by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Jennifer Granholm last year, which permitted the shooting of doves in the state for the first time since 1905.

Michigan Humane Society Joins Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban
DETROIT, MI - September 16, 2004 - The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) announces that its Board of Directors has unanimously voted to become a Charter Member Organization in "The Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban." This committee is leading the statewide voter referendum petition drive to place a repeal of the new state dove hunting law on the November 2006 ballot.

Dove Protection Coalition Denounces Action by NRC and the Launch of Michigan s First Dove Hunting Season in a Century
LANSING, MI - September 9, 2004 - Today, the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban, a coalition of humane, environmental, and civic groups, denounced the anticipated decision today by the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) to initiate the first mourning dove shooting season since 1905.

Conservation and Humane Groups Launch Signature Gathering Campaign
LANSING, MI - August 5, 2004 - With Michigan's first dove hunt in decades set to begin as early as mid-September, the newly created Coalition to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban announced at a press conference today that it intends to gather the 158,000 valid signatures required to put a dove hunt referendum on the 2006 ballot to reverse a law passed earlier this year and signed into law by Governor Jennifer Granholm in June.
