LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A poll released Thursday surveyed 600 likely voters on how they would vote on Michigan ballot proposals if the election were today.
-On Proposal 2, a measure to ban affirmative action programs that give preferential treatment based on race or gender in government hiring or university admissions, 41 percent said they supported it, 44 percent said they opposed it and 15 percent were undecided.
-On Proposal 3, a referendum on a law that would allow dove hunting in Michigan, 25 percent supported it, 66 percent opposed it and 9 percent were undecided.
-On Proposal 5, a measure that would guarantee schools, community colleges and universities annual funding increases equal to the inflation rate, 43 percent supported the measure, 40 percent opposed it and 17 percent were undecided.
The poll was conducted Sunday through Wednesday by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA for The Detroit News and TV stations WXYZ in Southfield, WOOD in Grand Rapids, WILX in Lansing and WJRT in Flint. The poll had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
